Stewardship

At the Church of the  Epiphany, we encourage all members to make a pledge.  The commitment of financial gifts enables the Vestry to plan responsibly for the coming year and ensures the success of our programs and ministries. You neither have to be a member of Epiphany nor an Episcopalian to pledge.  To make a Pledge, simply complete a Pledge Card.  Pledge Cards can be found on the table at the back of the church or call the church office at 860.739.2324 and request one.

A Prayer for Stewardship

Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him, and speak of all his marvelous works. You do not have to be an official member of the parish to worship at the Church of the Epiphany. . Everyone is welcome to worship with us and all baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Membership in the parish, however, is a wonderful way to strengthen your relationship with your neighbors and with God. Membership in the Parish is an essential way to make an intentional commitment to be part of something larger, to be a part of a Christian community, united in our love of God and God’s love for us even though we may come from very different places. One major expression of Stewardship is to establish or maintain one’s membership in the Parish. Stewardship is the practice of caring for the bounty of Creation and the gifts of life, which God has bestowed on each of us. As such, Stewardship should involve the giving of our time, talent, and worldly possessions. Stewardship is all that we do with all that we have. It is not just about raising money; it is how we treat each other and all of God’s creation, as well as how we use and share the time we have available and the talents God has given us. As we live lives from day to day, there are countless examples of nourishment, growth, formation, ministry, and mission where the time and talent of our parishioners are so important. And yes, stewardship is, in part, about how we use and share the financial resources with which God has entrusted us. The annual stewardship campaign is an event that happens every fall with parishioners sharing why Church of the Epiphany is important in their lives. Our goal is that all parishioners will ponder why this Church is important in their lives.

Stewardship can be a loaded word. People often hear it and think about money and the annual October Beg-A-Thon where the church asks for money. But in its truest form, stewardship is about our need to give, and about the transformation that takes place in our lives and in our relationships with God and with the world around, when we give of ourselves. Giving is the very nature of God, and when we give, we become more like the One Who created us.

Far from being limited to merely financial giving, the Stewardship Committee seeks to educate and engage people in the life-changing conversations about where God, grace, generosity, and giving intersect.

Pledging

A pledge is a commitment made to the church and to God to give a specific amount and/or proportion of your income in the coming year, to fund the mission and ministries of the church.  All are also invited to make pledges of work and wisdom to the church.  These are also often expressed as "Time, Talent, and Treasure" -- or "Wealth, Wisdom, and Work," or even "Brains, Brawn, and Bucks."

At Epiphany, the pledge campaign takes place in October and November, but pledge cards may be requested and filled out throughout the year -- or you can pledge electronically.

The church leadership -- in the Vestry and the Finance Committee -- then relies on the total amount pledged when preparing the spending plan for the next year.  Pledges can be revised during the year if your financial situation changes.

Pledges can be honored by giving during the offering at Sunday worship services.  Pledges can also be paid electronically using the Giving link on the homepage, or by checks sent directly from banks.  To receive a pledge card, contact the office at 860-349-9644.
